Who We Are
Feed The D Inc is an LLC “soon to be non-profit with your help” dedicated to feed the less fortunate in and around the city of Detroit through Urban Farming. We are also about community development, teaching about nutritious superfoods, health coaching, and natural approaches to illness.
Our main goal at Feed The D is to grow fresh organic superfoods on our lot in the city. Superfoods are some the most nutrient packed foods in the world. Being able to grow the high nutrient dense food gives everyone the advantage of living happy healthy lives at an affordable if not free price. This will give us the great opportunity of helping the less fortunate greatly improve the quality of their lives.
Imagine fresh or dehydrated and sun dried superfood care packages that are donated to Salvation Army and put in their trucks the next day directly feeding the homeless. These foods would include grains, leafy greens such as kale and spinach, fruits such as goji berries, and blueberries, herbs such as horsetail, nettle and many more…. “YES TOMATOES TOO” The homeless tend to eat highly processed bread, milk, and soup lacking nutrition. Imagine giving them nutrient dense food that won’t only taste good but will also nourish them. Our approach to giving them superfoods will make a huge impact on their lives. To do this in a sustainable manor we will have to grow and sell some food at the places like the Eastern Market. This is so we can afford to donate parts of our produce to Salvation Army, Forgotten Harvest and to compensate our directors for their efforts.
Why super foods?
Bread and milk lack the key ingredients to a healthy body. Example: As the Author of the book Self Health Michael Zenn would say: Wonder bread it sounds great and was when grandma use to make it years ago but now… we “wonder” what’s really even in it anymore. We can change that by growing our own grains and ensuring our bread is full of nutrients.
Goji Berries – These distinctively flavoured red berries are a very rich source of vitamin C, having 500 times more vitamin C per ounce than oranges and actually more than any other fruit. They are a superb source of vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E and contain a full complement of protein with 18 amino acids and 21 trace minerals. Most of all they are an excellent antioxidant making it an ideal natural whole food for reversing aging and protecting against disease.
Green leafy vegetables are so readily available and highly nutritious, however most people do not eat enough of them. Studies continuously confirm that populations that eat a diet high in green leafy vegetables run a far lower risk of heart disease and cancer. Fresh raw green leafy vegetables contain high doses of chlorophyll, easily digestible proteins, enzymes and a wide range of vitamins and minerals. Vegetables act as mini-transfusions for the blood, a health tonic for the brain and immune system and a cleanser of the kidneys. See for yourself! Try any of the following: alfalfa, rocket, spinach, dandelion greens, kale, watercress, parsley, lettuce, endive, chicory, broccoli sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, and mustard sprouts.
Wheat grass – Wheat grass is sprouted grass from a wheat seed. Since it has sprouted, it no longer contains gluten or other common allergenic compounds. Wheat grass alkalizes and cleanses the blood of toxic impurities. It stimulates metabolism, aids in digestion and aids in weight loss since its high in enzymes and chlorophyll.
Acquire Shipping containers
Acquire shipping containers to build a small facility. This facility will be best used for company meetings and helping others become happy. We will teach about healthy eating, how to grow food, and a place for people to come relieve stress. Offer coffee, television, books, games, and much more.
Once Feed The D is fully functioning in Detroit Brandon Lawes will be working on traveling around the country starting gardens where our sponsors are located so they can help their local communities as well. Detroit is just the beginning.
Health Coaching
As some of you already know, I Brandon Lawes the founder of Feed The D have suffered from Lyme Disease my entire life. I struggled for years and even had to drop out of school because of it. I have came across high nutrition and a holistic approach to my illness. After only 3 months of treating myself I have been able to reverse chronic fatigue and sleeping disorders caused by Lyme. I am not cured yet but I am physically capable of living a healthier life now. As I learn every day I am able to put my knowledge to use to benefit others. I will be holding workshops and teaching the local community about superfoods and the best diet based on their specific needs. We like to call this Bio-Individuality. Every human body is slightly different and needs a different approach to things. Not everyone will do good on the same diet even if its all superfoods.
